My objective when painting is to typify a mood. 

I started painting cats when I was volunteering at Abandoned Pet Rescue, a no-kill animal shelter in Fort Lauderdale. My objective with an animal portrait is to infuse it with life, returning the animal’s vibrance to the viewer. 

I paint botanicals to celebrate the beauty, joy and mystery of flowers. Flowers have a posture, a mood, as much as any living thing.  

The appeal of painting lies in the human hand, and the “error” created where the hand meets the medium. What makes us interesting are our flaws, our mistakes. The things we do that fall outside of perfect. We don’t notice what is normal or expected, we notice what falls outside of that. 

Influences include Andres Derain, Kees Van Dongen, Kandinsky, Mary Blair, William Theibaud, Eric Carle, and Japanese art from the Edo period.
